Ulmer Münster
Centered in Ulm’s town square is Ulmer Münster. Originally Roman Catholic, it is now a Lutheran Church because the seat was never held by a bishop. It was the tallest church in the world until 1901.
The panoramic views of street activity and the scenic land of surrounding towns, is well worth the 768 stair climb. On clear days, you can see the peaks of the Alps from Säntis to the Zugspitze. There is a second staircase to the Gallery, the top of the steeple. It is a rather tight climb, but allows you a more expanded view of the landscape.
The inside of the church is just as beautiful. Mozart was known to play the organ here in 1763. The church holds several famous pieces of art dating back to 14th, and 15th century, including the stained glass windows, all left in original form.
Quick Tip
It does close at 16:45, so make sure you leave enough time to experience the steeple views and peruse the art collection!
